Jacquelyn Martin/AP Ten people, including two police officers, were shot Monday at the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters, authorities said. The Navy confirmed several injuries, and reports of fatalities, among those shot. The Associated Press, citing a defense official, said as many as 10 people were shot and that several were killed. The Navy has also confirmed several fatalities. The AP also reported that the shooter is "contained" inside a building but not in custody. A D.C. police representative told Al Jazeera the victims have been rushed to an area hospital. One of the victims is a Washington D.C. police officer and the other is from an unidentified law enforcement agency. At 8:20 a.m. a person reportedly fired three shots in Building 197. Emergency responders are on the scene and a "shelter in place" order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel, according to a release from U.S. Navy. The Washington Post reports, citing police, that there are three shooters in total, and one is "down," with the other two inside a building. It's not clear whether the word "down" means dead, shot or under arrest, according to the paper. The Navy told the Post that it cannot confirm the report of multiple shooters, but they have not dismissed the report either. Reuters reports that it is possible there is more than one shooter at the scene, citing another U.S. navy official. Washington Reagan National Airport has halted all landings and take-offs in response to the incident, according to the area's airports authority. About 3,000 people work at the headquarters.
